NEWS - 06-10-2008

Well,if you read my last entry from OVER A YEAR AGO you can see that I was suprised that it was almost five months since my update before that. That was nothing compared to this 13 month sabattical.

The big news is that Trevor Tanner's new solo CD 'Eaten by the Sea" is out. It was released about a month ago on iTunes only and about two weeks ago from the EPR website. I did the iTunes download but dutifully have ordered my copy (only $12 including postage -- sweet) so I can get the booklet (Described as 16 pages, full color and beautifully-designed. Yummy) and more.

I do have a few other things to post that have been sent to me by my wonderful readers, including a couple of great photos and some new (okay, new to me) music.

Once I get the CD I will do some scanning and update the site a little more and maybe do a proper review...

But buy it now.

Thanks!

NEWS - 05-15-2007

Amazing that this is my first update of 2007. It's been almost 5 months since my last note, meaning it's almost been a year since anything of substance has been done! NOT COOL!

Now that's not necessarily surprising since it's not like The Bolshoi or any of its members is releasing new stuff left and right. Still, I have managed to get my hands on some stuff and other things have surfaced.

So keep an eye on the site and hopefully I will be able to get an update done soon. Meanwhile, check out the Bolshoi MySpace as well. Some things may get posted there first...

Thanks!
Greg

NEWS - 12-17-2006

I can't believe it's been almost SEVEN months since I made an update to the site. Sorry about that everyone -- but when you do have a band that is no longer together there is limited action...

That said, be on the lookout for some new audio coming soon! I have a bunch that I have gotten my hands on and there is more out there hopefully within reach...

One last note, there has been a Denial of Service attack on the shared server I have the site hosted on -- this means that there has been a ton of downtime in the last three or four days. I am trying to get it resolved, but hopefully it will be cleared up soon!

Greg

NEWS - 5-23-2006

It's been a busy month and I haven't been able to make many updates. But thankfully there's some new stuff coming!

First off, there's some great scans added to the Articles/Reviews section. They include scans of the "Friends" newsletter from 1988 (click on 1988 to see it) -- very interesting, especially since it comes near the end of the band's life. There are a few other scans from 1987 and 1986 that have also been added, including a flyer from a Roxy show in Los Angeles from 1986...

Be sure to also check out the Bolshoi MySpace page. I am now maintaining it (with the blessings of the person who set it up and Trevor Tanner himself). Feel free to drop me a note if you are on MySpace to have your name added.

Coming soon -- at least one (or two) new live shows, too. Hopefully those will be up very soon, along with a couple of other goodies!

BTW, those of you who check out the Boards -- there has been quite a spam problem there. I try and keep on top of it, but it takes a day or so sometimes to catch up!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

NEWS - 4-09-2006

One additional note -- it looks as though Trevor has also gotten his own MySpace page -- check it out. He reads his email and messages, so you can get in touch with him if you'd like!

NEWS - 4-09-2006

It's official -- Rathkeltair's "Everybody" CD is now available via CD Baby. Currently the 12-track CD is sold out, but I am sure it will be back in stock soon. For those of you who may have gotten the "Everybody EP" the good news is there are actually only three songs that are on the album that were on the EP. So it's definitely worth picking up (I am waiting for mine while they are out of stock).

Continuing on with Rathkeltair, the band is now on MySpace ( http://myspace.com/rathkeltair/). The site is pretty full of info and is checked out by Trevor and the other band members. Very much worth a visit!

As for Trevor, according to a source on the Forums, his new album will be out this Autumn. But definitely you will get a taste of Trevor on the new Rathkeltair release, as three of the songs are original songs by him ("Everybody," "Dragonfly" and "Back in the Day").

A couple of other side notes. Warren Swaine wrote in to give some background on the sound quality of the Portsmouth Poly shows he provided. Now we know why they sound so good! And he also provided a nice scan of the "Happy Boy" 12" for the Discography.

There should be at least one new live show coming fairly soon, along with a couple of new scans of articles/clippings (once my scanner is fixed), along with an older press release from the "Happy Boy" era.

NEWS - 3-06-2006

It looks like the Rathkeltair CD "Everybody" is going to be released soon. It is apparently already available at live shows and should soon be available at the website. Read a little more on the Forums about the release from someone who already got a copy. Nothing on the website yet.

As for those of you who might be interested in some not-too-common Bolshoi/Trevor Tanner related items, here's a couple of things I saw recently on Ebay (in addition to the shirt described below).

- BOLSHOI - AMIGO - An Argentinian release of "Friends" that apparently has Spanish tracklistings. No photo, though, to see what it looks like. Not too bad at $8.00.
- Bolshoi Poster - A "Friends" record cover promo poster b/w info about the release. A little pricey at $15 (plus s/h), but could be nicely framed? Too bad there aren't more Bolshoi posters out there.
- Friends w/obi strip - Japanese release of "Friends" on lp with the obi strip and Japanese lyric sheet. I have some Japanese stuff. Kind of cool. Still sounds the same! Not cheap at $15.00.
- Trevor's CD Box Set Autographed - For the fan who has everything, a copy of the Bullish, Bellyache & Belch CD box set that's autographed. I saw these on sale before on EBay (they have probably still been there, hidden amognst all the ballet stuff). Most people probably already have the CDs, but if not, this is a good way to get them! Cost is $40 + s/h.

Those are some of the most unusual items, but, as always, there are plenty other singles, etc. for sale. Click Here to search Ebay's current Bolshoi listings (Unfortunately this link can't be modified to get rid of all the ballet stuff!).

NOTICE - 3-02-2006

FYI - Trevor has asked me to pull the in-store video that was posted and I have done so. I posted it with the belief that he had okayed it being posted (but he didn't).

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to hopefully getting some new stuff up soon!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

CHECK IT OUT - 2-04-2006

You want a cool t-shirt? There's a guy selling silk-screened shirts showing the cover of "Happy Boy" -- very cool. Starting bid is low (or you can buy it now). Click here to see the item. I've bought two!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

SITE UPDATE! - 1-28-2006

Check out the Audio Downloads section for three more live shows! They include one from 1984, which has "Sob Story" along with two new tracks great stuff! Also a show from '86 and '87. Thanks to Per Ake for getting these shows to the site!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

SITE UPDATE! - 1-18-2006

It took a bit longer than I had hoped, but the Guestbook is now up and running. The actual program is different than before, so I hope it will be better. All the old entries have been moved over (so the IPs, etc. for old entries is off), but hopefully we will have some new entries soon (and less spam!).

Still coming (very) soon -- three more audio shows (taped).

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

SITE UPDATE! - 1-11-2006

Awesome news -- I have finally gotten up the live footage of Trevor Tanner playing an acoustic in-store show in Georgia last May. Check out the Videos Section for all the songs.

Thanks to Richard Ryea for contributing the video! Coming soon -- three more live shows (taped). I may also try and get a mp3 recording of the Trevor show on the site.

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

SITE UPDATE! - 1-3-2006

Thanks to Simon Proudman, we have some new Kite information uploaded in the Bios area. It includes two press releases from 1992 and 1994 introducing the band (which changed members in that time). He also sent over a new Beggars bio of the band from 1986.

Simon also forwarded on a couple of articles he wrote about The Bolshoi for Bludgeoned (1985) and Patches (1986) magazines. They are both in the Articles/Reviews area. Each has multiple pages and is worth a read. Due to the set-up of the area, it may not be clear which is which, but you should be able to find it!

Thanks very much to Simon! His name will be included in a new contributors page I am making.

One last minor note -- in the Photos section I have created a "Memorabilia" category -- this is for any Bolshoi stuff that doesn't fit elsewhere. So right now there are some badge photos, plus a shot of a t-shirt and ticket stub. Any more contributions are welcome!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

SITE UPDATE! - 1-2-2006

Two new shows are up in the audio download area -- well, really just one new one. I have gotten clean versions of previous concerts that were on the site (Reading 1987, Portsmouth Poly Oct. 87) and have been able to post full versions of these concerts. I also have been able to add a US show by the band done while it was supporting Love and Rockets in late 1986.

Lots more is on its way!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Happy New Year! - 12-31-2005

Hey all - hope everyone has a happy new year and a wonderful 2006! On the Bolshoi front, there is lots to look forward to -- not only do I have four new live shows to put up (including a US date and a 1984 show), I also have video of Trevor's instore performance from earlier in 2005 when he played not only new songs (or at least songs from his solo cds) but also some Bolshoi stuff.

On top of all that, there is the liklihood that Trevor's new CD will hit the stores (or at least online) in 2006! Maybe we will see some other cool stuff on cd? It's already happening with Moskow being included on a cd release of an old compilation named "Avon Calling" (More about it here).

All in all, it's been a crazy nine and a half months since I relaunched this site -- and I would say about 90% of the content in new! Hope you all are enjoying it. Look for the new stuff to start posting soon!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site Update - 12-15-2005

Good news -- The Boards are up and running! It looks like everything made it over okay, so please be sure to try it out and let me know if anything doesn't work as it should!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site Update/News - 12-14-2005

A couple of big notes! Just in time for the holidays, the site has moved to a new server -- one with more space and one that is (hopefully) more reliable. Only problem is the Guestbook and Boards are down and still being moved. I plan to move these over quickly!

On the "new" front, I also just put up FIVE new shows in the audio download area, including a Reading Festival show from 1986. That brings the total of live shows on the site to an even dozen (though one of those is corrupted and really shouldn't count).

I will busy for the holidays and such, so I don't think I will be making many other updates before the end of the year, but the only thing I have left to post right now is video -- that's right, video -- of Trev's live acoustic in-store from earlier this year. Great stuff!

Enjoy!

Site Problems - 12-05-2005

Looks like everything is back up.

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site Problems - 12-05-2005

My bad hosting company is having problems with their MySQL DB connection so the Guestbook and Boards are down. Have been since yesterday. I will post a note when it's back up.

See why I am changing hosting providers? I only have to finish moving the guestbook and boards (imagine that) and I will be done. I will aim for this week! When the site moves, I will have at least two new live shows posted as well! Plus more fun stuff coming soon.

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site News - 11-28-2005

Hey all -- looks like Paul Clark is coming out with some new music. He has redesigned his site in advance and has a promo of a song named "Ten Million," which is a good instrumental. No word on when the new album will be available, but check out his site for info. Maybe he and Trevor will have new music coming out around the same time...

On other fronts -- I am in the process of moving the site to a new server that will have more space and hopefully better uptime. As a result, I haven't been able to update the site as much as I'd like. I have a few more live shows to post, which should be cool, and hopefully that will be complete by mid-December.

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site Update - 10-16-2005

More live stuff has been posted. Two shows, including one from Chicago, and also the live "Give it Some" tracks. On top of that, I have posted a few more tracks from Moskow and some other b-sides. Everything is in the audio download area. Go ahead and check them out. Coming soon are a few more live shows. The vault is open, folks!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site Update - 09-27-2005

Great news! There's a new live concert posted in the audio download area. Not only does it have a couple of classic tracks, but it also has FIVE unreleased tracks by the band! Very cool stuff! Thanks to Cash for making it available to the site.

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Discussion - 08-31-2005

There's been some nice discussion going on in the boards, and I went ahead and posted some info about Kite that Trevor shared with me when I met him (see the post below). Also, a poster left some great tidbits about Trevor and the old days!

Check out the boards for more!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

News and Updates - 08-18-2005

It's been a few busy weeks. I've made a few updates to the site, mainly in terms of photos and scans. Paul Clark passed on some great shots of some Bolshoi pins he had (now featured in the Scans and more section of Photos). Also uploaded a couple of new press kit photos...

I had the extreme pleasure to see Rathkeltair live in (of all places) Toledo, Ohio last Friday. Small place, awesome show. First time I had seen them live. I also was able to talk with Trevor in between sets. Sounds like his new album will be great. No specifics on when we can expect it, though!

You can see a few photos from the show in the Live Photos - Rathkeltair directory under photos. The first three are from last week's show. I have added some others from a site (http://www.gofstein.us/Rathkeltair/index.html) that has tons of Rathkeltair live shots.

Lastly, thanks to Jason Marx for clearing up some of the "Boxes" lyrics.

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site Update - 07-23-2005

Now live -- an audio download area featuring live tracks from The Bolshoi, plus rare tracks from Trevor Tanner's other bands Kite and Moskow. Throw in some b-sides and how good can it get? Lots of info in these pages -- please check them out and let me know what you think (you can sound off on the boards). Just a side note, I have to do some updating throughout the site to add this to the nav, so it's mainly linked to from the front page and here...

Also new -- all "Bigger Giants" lyrics except for the difficult-to-decipher "Sob Story."

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site Update - 07-18-2005

A few tweaks and changes. Part of an ongoing bunch of tweaks I hope to make before I get buried by other work in the next week... Mainly I have now linked the songs in the discography to the individual lyrics for those songs (and added a few more songs). Thanks to Lee for helping out with a tough line in "Pardon Me." I reckon I'll... Chop down that tree!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site Update - 07-12-2005

Now launched -- a site archive that includes archived copies of TheBolshoi.com and my original "World of The Bolshoi" site. My site's worth a laugh, but it was nice to see an "official" Bolshoi site for some time. At least we have Trevor's new site.

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site Update - 07-09-2005

I guess I felt guilty and have done some work. Updated Lyrics to include all songs from "Friends" and the best of comp, along with a couple from "Giants." So I have the remainder of "Giants/Bigger Giants" to go then on to the singles. THEN maybe tackle Trevor's solo stuff. Whew! There are a few songs where I have questions about the lyrics, but as always, email me with any corrections.

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

General Update - 07-08-2005

Wow! Time certainly does fly. I apologize for the lack of significant updates in the last two months. I do have some material to put up, but have been working out of town and it has just been difficult. But maybe soon!

A couple of notes: The EPR site has been redesigned (for the better, in my opinion). instead of being completely flash driven, it is now a little cleaner and in html. The site was updated earlier this month (apparently) and says Trevor's new solo album "Eaten by the Sea" is close to completion!

Also, you can now get directly to the sample page for the band Mysterious Creature here. As a reminder, the band is produced by Trev. Check them out!

The update also includes links to buy Trevor Tanner merchandise. It's using Cafe Press, which basically just reprints album covers and images on items, but it's nice, nonetheless, to have a choice!

By the way, anyone who visits the guestbook on a regular basis, I am forced to clean it on a daily basis because of spammers. I am looking for a new system that is better protected, but for the time being if you notice spam, rest assured it will be cleaned out (it adds up quickly, unfortunately). Even so, we've had a few new entries in the last week or two.

Thanks for visiting!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Trev Producing? - 05-19-2005

Looks like Trevor is producing an upcoming album for a band named Mysterious Creature. The CD will come out later this year on the Emperor Penguin Recordings label (which, as you may recall, releases Trevor's solo stuff).

Check out the EPR site for some of the upcoming tracks (it's a flash site, so I can't link directly to the page) -- navigate to the band link, then to "Sample the Music." There are a few tracks there worth listening to (the band also plays automatically when the site is launched).

You might also be able to catch the band on an internet radio station named Rae of Sound. It also plays Trev and other EPR bands.

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Mini Review - 05-04-2005

Check out my mini review of Trevor's new songs (see news item below) in the boards and, after you listen, vote on your feelings about the songs.

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

New Trevor Material - 05-04-2005

Trevor Tanner's official site has very quietly been updated with new material, notice of a live acoustic show and notice of an upcoming album!

Whew! Very cool. According to the site, Trevor has more than 60 songs to pull from for the new album. Be sure to check out the full-length samples of his new songs!

Memo to all of you in Georgia -- maybe you can catch Trevor Live . Otherwise, be sure to check out the tour dates for Rathkeltair -- they have added many dates and may be coming to a town near you -- if you live on the east coast, that is. I was pleased to see a couple of Ohio dates added. See you in Bellvile or Toledo (or both), Trevor!

One more Trevor note -- he has been told about the site, so perhaps he will stop by. Be sure to sign our guestbook or leave some messages on the boards! He may see them (and don't forget Paul Clark has checked the site out multiple times!).

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

General Venting - 04-29-2005

Hmmm. So I put up the Site Uptime link a few days ago and up to that point had zero outages. Now I get two in the last two days. Grrrr...

Next week - some live tracks will be uploaded, as well as some lyrics.

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site Update - 04-26-2005

Whew! I have done a little bit of work. Based on feedback, I decided to go ahead and upload all the songs from "Live in Argentina" in the Video section -- adjusting and redoing the area as a result. I also uploaded a bunch of screenshots in the Photo Gallery.

One note: because of the size of these, my FTP program occassionally returned errors though the files appeared to transfer completely -- please let me know if there are any problems!

When I changed domains I changed hosting providers and got a lot of space, which makes it easier to host all this video. But, as I found out soon after activating it, this new provider may be a little wiggy. I know of two outages since signing up, so I signed up for a service to monitor uptime (from SiteUptime) -- if you are so interested, you can see how the site is doing by clicking here. This doesn't reflect those initial outages, as I signed up after that.

So... what's next? I plan to upload some audio -- live mostly. Hopefully soon!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

New Feature! 04-13-2005

So I have added a new feature -- Boards -- at least one user has suggested them, so I hope everyone will check them out -- as part of the boards I will have some polls set up. Such as voting for your favorite Bolshoi album. Mine is Giants/Bigger Giants.

So check the boards out and go to town!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site Update - 04-12-2005

The Guestbook is now operational with all previous entries intact!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site Maintenance - 04-12-2005

The Guestbook is down as part of the transition. Actually, it would work right now for new entries, but I wanted to move over the old. I should be finished tomorrow with that!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site Update! 04-12-2005

A few additional scans of ads have been posted in the Articles area. This includes one for a 1984(!) gig.

Thanks to Per-Ake of Sweden for his contribution!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

New Domain! - 04-11-2005

So, I went ahead and decided to move this to a new (permanent) home. I thought the Shriekman.com domain would work, but I was starting to use it for other personal stuff and it just made sense to use TheBolshoi.co.uk since, after all, it is the name of the band.

I would love to have TheBolshoi.com, but that isn't available right now -- so if I do manage to get it at some point, I will just redirect it to the .co.uk address.

So I hope you like the site's new home! Coming very, very soon -- some new article scans, some more lyrics, live video and more!

Greg
(greg@thebolshoi.co.uk)

Site Update - 03-30-2005

After a bit of a wait, the Store is now live.

Now, I don't really sell anything on the site, but I do point out where to look. I am really doing this because I do get people asking about getting stuff all the time. I hope it helps!

And what now? More song lyrics, maybe some more video. And live audio if I feel so inclined ;)

Greg the Shriekman

Site Update - 03-07-2005

Okay, I reuploaded the scans of albums/etc. in the Photo Gallery as 800 pixels wide. I also added a photo of my shirt (last one in the scans gallery). I have also added screenshots of all videos.

Good news! Paul Clark has taken a look at the site and was very complimentary. He has even added a prominent link from his site. Nice to be sanctioned!

The last area of the site that has nothing done to it yet is the Store, which I may tackle this week. I also hope to add my own bios for the band and members.

Greg the Shriekman

Site Update - 03-06-2005

FYI - I re-encoded the "Sunday Morning" video so the audio problems are no longer an issue! Enjoy!

Greg the Shriekman

Site Update - 03-06-2005

As promised, the Photo Gallery has launched. Still to be added are some more screenshots from the videos, and a picture of my shirt(!), but unless I get new photos, don't expect many changes there. As photos are added, I will mention it here. I may add more scans of albums, etc. since there are a few gaps -- maybe in higher resolution.

I am wondering about audio clips -- maybe I should put up some Kite and some live stuff? We'll see!

I'm working on the photo gallery -- maybe Sunday that will be done.

Greg the Shriekman

Site Update - 03-04-2005

The Articles/Reviews section has launched, though not completely. If you go there now, you will find scans of more than 70 articles/ads/etc. to sort through. I do have some more text to move over, but it's a lot to look through!

Also updated, the Discography to include Moskow, Tanner Solo, and some images added.

I'm working on the photo gallery -- maybe Sunday that will be done.

Greg the Shriekman

Site Update - 02-26-2005

I went ahead and added the live video for "Please" on the site. Check it out here!

Greg the Shriekman

Site Update - 02-24-2005

The discography mentioned below is now launched and basically complete. I do need to still add in compilation appearances, but for the most part singles, albums, etc. are in good shape.

I was out of town, and during that period I received my first email about the new site, which was nice. Also, I finally got some old video transferred of The Bolshoi live in Argentina. I plan to put some of the video online, but it's way too big to fully show. I may offer it as a DVD some time in the near future... Email me if you're interested.

I also received a Bolshoi t-shirt I won on E-Bay. It says it's a XL, but it looks a bit smaller, meaning I may not be able to wear it (I am an XL, if not a XXL). but I will post a photo soon.

Greg the Shriekman

Site Relaunch! 02-14-2005

The day is finally here! I have been threatening to redo the site for many, many years and it took moving from Los Angeles to Ohio and being out of work to force me into action!

I have gone ahead an launched the site though there are a few things left to complete. I have about 70 scanned articles/reviews/etc. that will take a while to put up, as well as more lyrics, etc. I will hopefully put up a basic discography soon, but things like full track lists, links to lyrics, etc. will come as I go along. I am most happy about adding the videos section, but I think there are two more videos to track down (don't fail me now, VH1 Classic!). I am also hopeful about adding some live video from an Argentina concert. I also have some tracks I might offer in some form.

I launched my original Bolshoi website in May 1996, and much has changed over the subsequent nine years! I have gotten many comments from many fans over the years, and hope this new site offers something even more for everyone. I plan to add some more funs stuff (beyond what there are links for), but I want to finish what I have laid out here first.

Thanks to everyone for your support! Enjoy the site!
